Cornell Players Honored

ITHACA, N.Y. – After a successful opening week in January, two Cornell players have been honored by ECAC Hockey for their performances against Union and Rensselaer.

Senior forward Kendice Ogilvie has been named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week, and freshman Monika Leck will take home Rookie of the Week Honors.

Ogilvie, who normally centers the fourth line for the Big Red, stepped up in with a six-point showing over the weekend as six of her teammates missed the games to play with Canada's under-22 national team. Ogilvie broke the ice just 52 seconds into the Union game on Friday, scoring her first goal of the season. Over the remaining 59 minutes, she assisted on four goals as Cornell rode to a 9-1 victory.

Ogilvie's weekend wasn't done yet. The senior once again struck first on Saturday at RPI, scoring what would wind up being the game-winning goal 11 minutes into the first period.

Assisting on that RPI game-winner was Leck – getting her 10th career point – and her day was not done there. Leck also assisted on Laura Fortino's power play goal in the second period.

One day earlier against the Dutchwomen, Leck scored her fourth and fifth goals of the season. Leck's first goal wound up being the game winner, and her second goal put Cornell ahead 7-1 in the third period.

Ogilvie takes home Player of the Week award for the first time in her four year career. She is the second Big Red player to win the honor this year, as Brianne Jenner claimed the prize on  Nov. 1.

Leck's Rookie of the Week honors are also a career first, and she is the third Cornell freshman to win this season. All three of Cornell's freshman forwards – Jillian Saulnier (twice) and Emily Fulton (once) – have now been named the league's top rookie at some point this year.

Ogilvie, Leck, and the rest of the Big Red are back in action Tuesday night against Colgate at 7 p.m. at Lynah Rink. It is the team's first home game since Thanksgiving weekend.
