RIT Has Winning Weekend

RIT's women's ice hockey team, ranked No. 2 in Division III heading into the weekend, had quite an impressive showing, defeating No. 8 Manhattanville, 6-3 on Friday, and defending national champion, No. 1 Norwich, 4-1 on Saturday to claim its second straight Norwich ECAC East/West Showcase title.

Junior forward Tenecia Hiller was named the Tournament MVP, after tallying three goals in the two wins.

Sophomore forward Kourtney Kunichika, freshman defenseman Morgan Scoyne, and sophomore goaltender Laura Chamberlain were all named to the All-Tournament Team.  Kunichika tallied four points (2-2-4) in the two games, while Scoyne scored the game-winning goal, the first of her collegiate career on Saturday, while Chamberlain made 43 saves in the two wins.

Freshman Celeste Brown tallied her first two collegiate goals over the weekend, while classmate Lindsay Grigg recorded her first assist.  Junior forward Ariane Yokoyama, who led the nation with 33 assists last season, recorded three over the weekend.  Dating back to last season, she now has at least a point in 11 straight contest and an assist in 10 straight games.

RIT returns to action this weekend, as they host Utica in a pair of ECAC West contests at Ritter Arena.  Both Saturday and Sunday’s contests get underway at 3 p.m.  RIT is 12-2-0 all-time against the Pioneers and have won eight straight in the series dating back to Feb. 2, 2008.  Last year, RIT went 3-0 against the Pioneers, outscoring them 11-3.
