CASTLETON, Vt.—Courtney Carnes (Winslow, ME/Winslow) netted a pair of goals and Buffalo State (6-5-2) skated past host Castleton State (5-5), 4-3, in a non-conference game today at Spartan Arena.
Freshman Jeyna Minnick (Rochester/Greece-Arcadia) added her seventh goal of the season and fourth in the last three games, and Christine Williams (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) scored the game winner for the Bengals.
After falling behind 1-0 just 1:15 into the game, Minnick evened the score just minutes later. Carnes then netted a pair of goals just 2:12 apart, before the Spartans cut the deficit to 3-2 before the opening 20 minutes expired. After a scoreless second period, Castleton tied the game at 3-3 55 seconds into the third period, but Williams netted her 12th with 9:15 remaining in regulation to put the Bengals ahead for good.
Castleton held a 33-19 advantage in shots, but Jordan Lee (Colorado Springs, CO/Widefield) made 30 stops to preserve the win for Buffalo State.
Buffalo State will take an extended break for the holidays and return to action on Dec. 13 with a non-conference home contest against Trinity.
