NU Women Drop to Clarkson

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Niagara women's hockey team (7-8-5) could not battle back from two third period goals and dropped a 3-1 decision to the Clarkson Golden Knights (11-4-4) Saturday evening at Dwyer Arena.

"We had some spurts of good things against," said head coach Josh Sciba.  "Abby played well, but its time for some kids to elevate their game.  Clarkson is a good team with some talented players, but we allowed them to do a lot of things we didn't set out to do before the game.  That was the difference in the game."

Sophomore Jessica Hitchcock would tally Niagara's only goal of the game on the man-advantage.  With a little more than five minutes left in the second stanza  Jenna Hendrikx found Hitchcock who fired one over the shoulder of Clarkson goalie Erica Howe.  The goal was the sophomore's 10th of the season.

"Tomorrow we need to stay out of the box," added Sciba.  "We have to be better on our own powerplay and we just have to come out ready to work.  We got outworked today and that's the result of the game."

The Golden Knights got on the board first 14:34 into the opening period.  The initial shot by Jennifer Shields was saved by starting goalie Abby Ryplanski, but senior Juna Baribeau was on the doorstep to tap in the rebound.  The Purple Eagles outshot Clarkson 9-8.

Danielle Skirrow gave the Golden Knights their second lead of the game 5:23 into the final period on the powerplay for her eighth of the season.  Carly Mercer added one more tally on the man-advantage to secure the 3-1 victory for Clarkson.

Ryplanski finished the game with 24 saves.
