Oswego Over Neumann

 The Oswego State women's ice hockey team followed up an impressive performance on Friday night with another strong showing against Neumann University, defeating the Knights, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center Ice Arena. 

The Lakers won the battle of special teams, scoring two power-play goals and limiting Neumann to just one power-play goal on five attempts with the extra skater to complete the series sweep of the Knights. 

Scoreless for the first half of the opening period, the Lakers got on the scoreboard first on forward Carly Marchment's (Fr., Courtice, Ont.) second goal of the season at 12:24 of the first period. The play was set up by forward Emma Smetaniuk (So., Frankford, Ont.), who sent a pass from the right side of the ice to teammate Kathyrn Sbrocchi (Sr., Mississauga, Ont.) in the slot. Sbrocchi wristed a shot that was saved by Neumann goaltender Allie Frank, but Marchment was in position in front of the net for the rebound and beat Frank glove side for the game's first goal. 

Oswego State broke the game open in the second period with a pair of power-play goals. Forward Mackenzie Lee (Sr., Caledonia, N.Y.) scored the first power-play goal of the game at 11:23 of the second period. Following a Neumann cross-checking penalty, Lee took a pass from forward Melissa Seamont (So., North Bay, Ont.) inside the right faceoff circle and wristed a shot that deflected off Frank, but trickled just past the goal line for the goal. Lee's goal was the third in two games and fifth of the season. 

The Lakers scored their second power-play goal in as many attempts at 7:29 of the second period on defender Jocelyn St. Clair's (So., Cambridge, Ont.) second goal of the season. After a hooking penalty, St. Clair received a pass from forward Jillian Bergeron (Sr., Brockville, Ont.) at the blue line and fired a slap shot through traffic, beating Frank for a three-goal lead after two periods.

Neumann spolied the Lakers' attempt at a shutout, scoring its only goal of the game with 11 seconds remaining in the third period on the power play. Metcalfe tallied the goal, with Edie Brenning earning the assist. 

Oswego State goaltender Bridget Smith (Fr., Hamburg, N.Y.) finished with 17 saves for the Lakers, earning her second win in net this season. Frank finished with 20 saves for the Knights. 

With the win, Oswego State improves to 4-4-2 overall and 4-2-2 in ECAC West play. The loss drops the Knights to 1-6-2 overall and 1-5-2 in ECAC West play.
