Utica Over Cortland 5-0

Five different players scored goals as the Utica women's ice hockey team skated to a 5-0 win versus Cortland Saturday afternoon in ECAC West action. The Red Dragons fell to 2-5-1 overall and 0-5-1 in the conference, while the Pioneers improved to 6-6 and 3-5.

Freshman goalie Katie Avery (Lewiston, ME/UMass Amherst Club) made 25 saves for Cortland in her first complete collegiate game. Jennifer Hamel stopped 13 shots for the Pioneers to earn the shutout. Megan Myers and Nicole Kieffer led Utica with one goal and one assist each. Meghan McMahon, Meghan Willet and Kelsey Dowdall each recorded a goal and six other players collected one assist apiece.

Utica took a 2-0 lead after the first 20 minutes on a power-play goal from McMahon at seven minutes, 13 seconds and an even-strength score by Myers at 15:12. Willet and Dowdall scored goals at 8:13 and 16:56, respectively, in the second period to push the lead to 4-0. Kieffer finished the scoring with a power-play goal at 7:11 of the third period.
