Brown Beats Union in Women's Ice Hockey

In a fierce battle against ECAC Hockey foe Union, it was Brown that came out on top as senior co-captain Katelyn Landry tallied the game-winning goal with just 72 seconds left in the contest. Brown goaltender Katie Jamieson put Brown in a position to take the victory, making 43 saves in her first shutout of the season.

Union (3-9-1, 1-4-1) came out strong in the first period, out-shooting Brown 13-1 in first 10 minutes of the initial frame. The Dutchwomen benefited from three Brown (2-2-3, 1-2-3) infractions, but the Bear penalty kill was impressive, blanking Union on all three opportunities.

The Brown offense got in gear in the second, finding chances and the Bears' first power play, but Union goalie Shenae Lundberg was able to fend off Bruno's attack.

Brown nearly broke the scoreless tie 4:19 into the third period, when rookie Shannon Flatley took control of the puck deep in the Brown zone and went end-to-end, skating past several Union defenders. Flatley came up on the stick side of Lundberg, and found sophomore Emilie Dolan for the one-time opportunity, but the Union netminder was able to make a great save on the Bears offensive offer.

With just 1:12 left in the game and overtime seeming likely, freshman Janice Yang took the pass from classmate Kaitlyn Keon and made into the Dutchwomen zone, before finding Landry in position for the go-ahead goal.

With their first conference win of the season, the Bears move into a seventh-place tie with St. Lawrence in the ECAC standings. Union is now tied with Colgate for eleventh place.

The Dutchwomen outshot the Bears 43-22, with Lundberg making 21 saves on the evening.

Union will be back in action after a two-week break on Sunday, November 27th. The Dutchwomen take on Providence College at Messa Rink at 2:00 p.m. The contest will be the first non-conference game after six straight ECAC opponents.
