NU's Streak Ends in Maine

The Niagara women's ice hockey team (6-6-2; 0-0-0 CHA) were handed its first loss in six games by the University of Maine (7-5-1; 2-3-1 HE), dropping a 3-0 decision Saturday afternoon at Alfond Arena.

Two minutes into the opening period, freshman forward Tori Pasquariello tallied the only goal needed for the Black Bears to secure the victory.  The goal was assisted by Missy Denk and Ashley Norum.  Maine goaltender Brittany Ott stymied 19 Niagara shots for the shutout.

"We were beat tonight by a hungry, physical Maine team," said head coach Josh Sciba.  "They took it to us and deserved the win.  I'm happy with our penalty kill today, but our overal effort and hunger has to be better tomorrow."

Junior forward Brittany Dougherty made it a two-goal game 8:03 into the first period off a short-handed tally for her eighth of the season.  Maine outshot Niagara 13-5.

The final goal of the game came 32 seconds into the final stanza, sealing the 3-0 win for the Black Bears. Senior Myriam Crousette hit the back of the net off assists from Dougherty and Melissa Gagnon.

Niagara netminder Abby Ryplanski made 29 stops while Jocey Kleiber, Kelsey Gunn and Kaleigh Chippy led the Purple Eagles in shots on goal with three.
