Elmira Over Cortland 9-1

The nationally eighth-ranked Elmira women's hockey team scored four goals in the second and third periods in defeatingCortland, 9-1, in ECAC West action Sunday afternoon at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons fell to 2-3-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the conference. The Soaring Eagles improved to 3-1 and 2-0.

Junior Brianna Rossi (Stormville/Brewster Bulldogs) scored Cortland's goal with senior Amanda Maddalena (Howell, NJ/Wyoming Seminary) and sophomore Gina Tomei (Bronx/Sound Shore Warriors) collecting assists. Senior goalie Katie Double (Farmington/Victor H.S.) made 46 saves.

Fourteen players recorded at least one point for Elmira led by senior Lindsay Mitchell (Arnold, MD/NAHA) and freshman Ashley Ryan (North Chili/Rochester Edge) with two goals and an assist, and sophomore Tori Charron (Goodwood, ON/Aurora Panthers), who scored a goal and added two assists.

Senior Lauren Campbell (Erie, PA/Chatham University), sophomore Ella Stewart (Mississauga, ON/Notre Dame Hounds) and freshman Haley Welch (East Amherst/Nichols School) recorded one goal and one assist apiece, while sophomore Tanis Lamoureux (Canton, MI/Victory Honda) and freshman Cassidy Delainey (Edmonton, AB/Edmonton Thunder) chipped in with two assists. Junior goalie Lauren Sullivan (Toronto, ON/Birchmount Park) turned aside 13 shots.

The game remained scoreless until the 18 minute, 25 minute mark of the first period when Mitchell scored on a one timer at the left post to put Elmira up 1-0. The Soaring Eagles took control of the game with the first four goals of the second period all before the 10-minute mark. Rossi broke up the shutout with her second goal of the season, knocking in a loose puck in front on the power play at 9:26.

Elmira sealed the win with three goals in 5:34 to start the third period, two coming from Ryan, and completed the scoring at 12:31 on Campbell's goal for the final of 9-1.
